I’m really happy about this overtake, it came out well, and it was nice. See I’m in third place, in front of me I have Critelli and Machado fighting, we reach the second chicane and they go fully internal see? Critelli closes the way internally and Machado tries to overtake him even more internal at this point, seeing that they were fighting, I decide to go fully external to make a line opposite to theirs crossing them and overtaking in the exit see, I go here since they were there, I was sure that they would have necessarily gone large and that’s what happened, see? When they arrived long there, by necessity they would arrive large even on the next corner, so what did I do? I cross their trajectory, here I go fully internal, all to the left, see? To then cross them and exit faster than them, in fact that’s what happened They went large, and when we arrive to this point we reach a corner in which two cars don’t fit so only one can pass, or we crash and at this point I have an advance because I had the internal trajectory so a trajectory advantage So Critelli, having to be careful to get points for the championship while my championship is f****d I can take on all the risks, in fact Critelli decides to give up and I overtake And for real, I really liked this overtake a lot, because it was a studied and built maneuver Unfortunately, though, the dreams of glory didn’t last much, because around the 5th lap I struggled a lot to hold the lead of the race and I was overtaken again. The way I got overtaken was a bit particular, See, Critelli went out of corner 1 faster I close the internal of corner 2 and he goes fully on the external side to try to get on my side on the external of this corner 3, and we reach this point in which I had to accelerate and widen my line, the problem is that from the rear view mirror I saw Critelli’s tire so I didn’t feel like going larger doing the usual line with the risk of touching and ending both outside, but I preferred staying internal in hindsight I could’ve been a bit more aggressive to bring him wide I was a bit too kind here So what happened, at the moment I decided to hold a more internal line, I found myself giving throttle with the wheel turned and this inevitably made me have oversteer the problem of these cars is that, because they have slick tires when it oversteers, the tire is glued to the ground and it brakes you, here sadly I had to give up so Critelli, exiting faster, obviously overtook me cleanly at this point what happens? Machado behind wants to take advantage of this too, and he tries overtaking me see, he goes next to me on the inside, and of course I go fully internal to cover the trajectory at this point I would have never thought that Machado would dive in this piece of road hence I didn’t even remotely look at the inside but I continued looking at Critelli in front of me, as he became my reference point for the corner, so I got the corner ready looking at Critelli and in the moment I steered, boom, I found Machado on the inside, this is the reason why I steered on him, because really, you see, my head aims forwards and with the corner of my eye, with the helmet, I didn’t see him, so when I steered he was already on the inside And this was probably the point where the suspension broke, I showed you, the spring broke so it stayed completely crushed the left anti-roll bar spring, the one which is placed here, that makes me think that it broke here, or maybe it broke somewhere else, I don’t know but see, when I steer and he hits me you see how the left tire suddenly rises up? how much it gets compressed here? So that could’ve been what broke my spring. anyways Machado’s overtake was a great overtake violent aggressive, but the truth is that I’m all for exchanging paint that thing in which in Formula 1, F*** you skim on another pilot with the sticked glued on the hull and you get 5 seconds of penalty, has been up my a**, these are races I have to say that in the latest races, FIA maybe started being reasonable what happpened next? Once I got passed by Machado, Atzori, who was behind wanted to, of course, overtake me as well, like vultures so he got my slipstream, and when we reached the X curve I defend the internal trajectory, he, of course, goes on the external and he decides to squeeze in Now, here I have the trajectory advantage, so I’ll exit faster, even though he went through the corner really fast on the external but he was really nice in making use of the entire curb on the exit and to stay external at this point, since according to rules he has the trajectory advantage, because he’s already next to him I can’t act like if he’s not there so, in the next corner in which I usually go wide to the external part, I can’t do that and I have to do it slower while instead he can do it fast really large see? and he continues to resist on the external and at this point I can’t close his line, because he continues to stay internal he, of course, pushes arriving large, pushing me a bit wide, and he overtakes me and this was really a masterpiece overtake from Atzori, by the way Atzori has a YouTube channel, which I linked down there, in which you can see the race from his point of view he uploads all the videos of his races, so go give that a look because he’s really committing to it And we finally arrive to the deed, the one that sparkled much discussion which is the mess that happened on the last lap after the safety car now what’s happening, we’re in the penultimate lap, the last lap is about to start and the safety car is still there by memory I remember that it already turned off the lights two corners before Machado, from what he told me, didn’t notice that, you see, Machado is the pilot who’s on the lead Here, red car So we reach the last corner, and we only now understand that the safety car is going back in, actually, Machado understands that just now so before restarting, he waits he stalls, he stalls, and you see, we’re there being like “go go start, start, start” at this point he starts and look at what happens: Boom. Tarani and Palummieri pass me before the finish line, which is completely illegal the rule says that with a restart after a safety car you can’t even get next to the other car until you pass the finish line, and the finish like is that line you see there this is the finish line, and here that’s more than getting alongside now, I honestly don’t understand the logic behind this maneuver, because a crash is accepted, you can do an evaluation error, a fake start can happen, the foot slips off the friction but, deliberately overtaking someone before the finish line…why? now, Tarani and Palummieri are pilots with decades of experience, right? so, I always believe in good will of others, so, I tried to understand what could have pushed them to this error the only thing I can think is this: In this moment we are all saying “go, start Machado, and while I am in this position Tarani is very far from me, like if, in a way, he was getting a running start I am glued to Atzori, to avoid to get outsmarted in the start like in Cremona while Tarani is far from me, like if he wants to get a running start to arrive faster on the first corner The problem is that, as you see, Machado takes a lot to start and at this point I accelerate getting ready to restart, but I have to raise my foot because they haven’t started yet, look: You see, I had to raise my foot here and slow down. This makes me think that this misled the ones behind which saw us start, so they started as well, but then we slowed down, so what happens, look: they shoot forwards, they arrive faster look at this, look at the moment in which I raise my foot, look at how much they get closer so that makes me think that this is what brought them to do that maneuver What I still don’t understand is, in the moment in which you arrive here, raise your foot so what happened is that they passed me before the finish line and of course they have been instantly penalized we then reach the crash in the first corner, I’ll show you at normal speed and then we’ll analyze it to see what the heck happened Result: Palummieri, the pilot with the yellow car, retired and me, broken wing Now, many could say: Palummieri shouldn’t have been there, because he passed you illegally with the safety car, like saying that he asked for it here you reason with ethics. That’s not how race judges think though, as in they analize both episodes restart, a penalized episode, incident, another episode, I mean, I can’t do what I want just because he shouldn’t be there withh this said look at what happens, we arrive on the first corner, and at this point I see the space here but with space I don’t mean space to go through and overtake I simply mean the space to do the normal line you should follow the normal line consists in hitting the curb here, and doing the trajectory, and I see Palummieri here and more or less you see? Palummieri’s steering to the left was so violent that, look here: he went in oversteer, see? look at the hand, he’s counterstering. At this point, being completely on the curb where do I go? The objection I got was: “well at this point you could have braked” sure, wheel entirely turned, tires not perfectly hot because we just restarted, in the corner as soon as I touch the brakes I block the tires, go straight and I hit him So, I couldn’t brake, I couldn’t steer more, because, where do I go? So at this point the hit was inevitable See,we hit each other anyways, I tried up to the end to avoid the contact, as soon as my tire hits Palummieri’s, what happens? automatically my car oversteers, I have to correct, his car oversteers on the other side, and we find ourselves inevitably hooked to each other Palummieri on the right, I follow my line, he completely crosses my trajectory, I find him in front of me I don’t know where else to go and we hit each other the result of this maneuver is that I got penalized honestly I absolutely disagree with the penalty, because I consider it a race incident because I haven’t tried overtaking anyone I simply followed my line and if the pilot in front of me, at some point, suddenly decides to change and I’m already pushing my car in the corner and he went so fast that his car even started oversteering how do I avoid him? I mean, where should I go At this point where do I go? What they told me was: “you were behind”.
